SUMMARY:Herps of Western Australia
DESCRIPTION:Frank Colacicco will talk about the reptiles that call the red deserts of Western Australia home. From Knob-tailed Geckos and Thorny Devils to King Brown snakes and Black Headed Pythons\, if you like Australian reptiles\, this talk will be right down your alley.\n \nBorn and raised in the redwoods of California\, Frank Colacicco can’t remember a time when he wasn’t actively looking for reptiles. Trips to the local pond soon turned to weekend road-trips to the southern Californian deserts which quickly graduated to plane flights to far-flung corners of the world in search of unique and rare reptiles. Lizards\, and especially geckos really caught his attention early on and continue to be his focus. He is captivated by the deserts and harsh environments of the world and has traveled extensively\, camera in hand in search of reptiles.\n \nFrank will also be the speaker at our annual Holiday Banquet on December 7th\, talking about Herping the Arabian Peninsula. Members\, get your tickets for this event at Snake Discovery soon\, because space is limited!\n \nRemember! We have moved!\n \nCheck out the announcement here.

SUMMARY:Conserving the Vibrant Legacy and Intriguing Behaviors of the Peacock Monitor
DESCRIPTION:Endemic to one island in the Lesser SundaIslands of the South Pacific\, the Peacock Monitor was once imported as BlueSpotted Timor Monitors. Common on importer and wholesaler lists\, theywere passed over by most keepers. Described as their own species by Robert Sprackland in 1999 and named after herpetologist Walter Auffenberg\, thiscolorful monitor became listed as Endangered only 20 years later(2019). In 2014\, Ryan began working with Peacock Monitors and in 2017 heard there wasgoing to be a population survey on Roti Island on Varanus auffenbergi. Knowing they may no longer come into captivity\, Ryan and Erica worked over thenext 7 years to collect the largest known collection of Varanus Auffenbergi inone place anywhere in the world. Come discover how a small colorfulmonitor created a passion that built an assurance colony for the species.
